Egg coffee is something you cannot miss out when coming to Vietnam. There is a variety of places that serve egg coffee, but only in Hanoi, this distinctive drink would satisfy the pickiest customer with its appetizing aroma, explosive flavor and artistic look.
Egg coffee is originally created by Mr. Nguyen Van Giang, a five-star Sofitel Legend Metropole Hotel’s Chef in 1946. With an aim to invent a signature Vietnamese version of Cappuccino, he came up with the idea of replacing the costly components with whisked egg yolks. Surprisingly, this different yet appetizing creation turned out to be a major success. Later on, Mr. Giang decided to start his own business by opening an egg coffee specialized shop in Hanoi Old Quarter.
Until these days, egg coffee in Hanoi still holds its position on the top of any visitors’ lists when going on a food tour. Just one sip and its elegant yet bold flavor will linger on your taste buds for a long time. The extraordinary taste comes from a combination of the bitterness of coffee, the richness of egg yolk and the sweetness of condensed milk. All ingredients blend harmoniously together, creating true art in a cup.

After 5 days in Hanoi, the HAKA Coffee just 50M from the ”red bridge” has been the best So far. Perfect texture and taste. I would put it even better than the original inventors coffee which is just packed with tourists and extremely uncomfortable to sit.
Highly recommend Giang coffee. Busy place but the egg coffee is worth it.
