History of People's Committee Building in Ho Chi Minh City

The People’s Committee Building in Ho Chi Minh City was built from 1898 to 1909. This structure was designed by a French architect, Femand Gardès in a Bell Tower style popular for designing administrative buildings in the north of France at that time.

The first name of this building is Hôtel de Ville. After the Vietnam War, it became the workplace of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee. Although it has undergone many name changes, the building remains the original use, the meeting and the workplace of the city government. The decoration of the City People's Committee Building, in addition to the textures, also has 3 special embossed statues. It is a statue of a woman and two children who are controlling the swarm of animals (in the middle) and the statue of two other women in the sword-holding position who are ready to fight (on the left and right).

In front of the People's Committee Building, there is a small yard with many trees, flowers and especially a statue of Ho Chi Minh President and the children. The statue was inaugurated in 2015 on the 125th anniversary of Uncle Ho's birth.
