Boat Express from Ho Chi Minh to Con Dao to Come into Operation

DP Green Technology Co. is looking forward to launching the Phu Quy Express in March 2019. The boat express from Ho Chi Minh to Con Dao is supposed to reach the speed of 27 - 30 nautical miles/hour and carry 300 passengers to Con Dao in under 5 hours.

The high-speed boat is a catamaran fitted with 230 beds and 70 VIP seats - all of which are air-conditioned, as well as internationally-standardized safety equipment. This modern boat express from Ho Chi Minh to Con Dao costs approximately VND 60 billion and is at the cutting edge of national marine transportation.

The express can reach the maximum speed of 30 nautical miles/hour, hence the ability to withstand rough sea and unsettled weather. In the meantime, the company is carrying experimental operations to make sure of the boat’s functions, stability, speed and convenience for passengers.

The high-speed boat is keenly awaited as it will cut down a significant amount of cost and save quite some time to travel to Con Dao comparing to traveling by plane. Not only the local but also international visitors are hoping to witness the boat coming into operation.

Con Dao was once a “living hell” for political prisoners, with the number of captives considerably exceed the population on the island. Therefore, the boat express from Ho Chi Minh to Con Dao is believed to bring more curious visitors to this island of wonders.

Update (March 2020):

Both speedboat routes Ho Chi Minh - Con Dao and Can Tho - Con Dao have been temporarily canceled. However, you can always take a bus from Ho Chi Minh to Vung Tau, or from Can Tho to Soc Trang then hop on the high-speed boat. Most travel companies will cover the cost of traveling to Vung Tau or Can Tho when booking speedboat tickets from them.

A hassle-free alternative is taking a direct flight from Tan Son Nhat Airport in Ho Chi Minh City to Con Dao Airport.
