Before it was accidentally discovered by a local man in 1991 on a hunting trip, the cave was unknown to the Vietnamese. He had lost his way and was not able to map out the directions back to the cave. In 2009, a group of British researchers/explorers visited the area and were told of the cave discovery by a local man.
